Our Medical Staff Services Department
The Medical Staff Services Department at SMITH Northview Hospital has various responsibilities, but is primarily involved with managing the activities of the medical staff in the traditional hospital setting. Other Medical Staff Professionals may work in ambulatory surgical centers, physician group practices, managed care organizations (e.g., HMO's, PPO's, IPA's, etc), consulting firms and medical societies.
Nursing
Florence Nightingale paved the way for the modern nurse as an integral part of the healthcare team. The modern nurse is healthcare's cornerstone for providing care for the sick and injured. The nursing influence is ever present throughout the Hospital. Their role is to provide optimal care for patients and their families during a time when they are most vulnerable. The vision of the Nursing Department is to provide high tech care with the feeling of being at home. The nurses at SMITH Northview Hospital have the necessary medical expertise as well as the heart to practice the art of nursing.
Medical-Surgical Nursing
The nursing staff at SMITH Northview Hospital are competent professionals practicing the art of nursing in the community in which they live. Our nurses are your friends and neighbors. Their focus is to extend a sense of community while caring for patients in a private room during their illness, injury or surgery. They strive to always provide compassionate care that includes patient education, pain management, case management, discharge planning and other interventions to restore or maintain patients' physical and psychosocial health.
Critical Care Nursing
Critical care nursing is a specialty within nursing that deals specifically with human responses to life-threatening problems. A critical care nurse is a licensed professional nurse who is responsible for ensuring that acutely and critically ill patients and their families receive optimal care. These nurses must often use sophisticated equipment to provide comprehensive care for their critically-ill patients.
Pediatrics
Pediatricians and other physicians work closely with pediatric nurses to deliver a unique brand of caring designed for both the parent and child. If your child doesn't need hospitalization, we offer the services of local pediatricians in our Youth and Pediatric After Hours Clinic (YPAC). Whether care involves bumps and bruises or more serious medical problems, the staff at SMITH Northview Hospital are here to help.
Our Environmental Department
The Environmental Department is responsible for keeping SMITH Northview Hospital sparkling clean. Their hands clean and sanitize everything from the operating room to the stock room, and play a big role in keeping all surfaces clean and disinfected. The Environmental Department cleans an average of 50 rooms a day, along with all common areas such as corridors, hallways, offices, meeting rooms, main cafe and etc. They also process about 30,000 lbs of laundry each month.
Needless to say, they take a great deal of pride in what they do. With a combined 74 plus years of experience, the 12 members of the Environmental Department are delighted to serve you each and every day.
If you have any special needs from the Environmental Department while you are staying with us, please don't hesitate to ask.
Our Maintenance Department
The Maintenance Department consists of three full-time employees and is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the hospital and all related systems (i.e. heating and air conditioning, electrical, plumbing, telephone, fire alarm, sprinkler, and medical gases). The Maintenance Department has a comprehensive preventive maintenance program consisting of over 700 inspections per month to ensure all systems are operating properly and therefore maintaining a safe environment for our patients, visitors and employees.
